Frederik Bauer TheFRedFox

Workflow / Tools Developer

Hey there, great to see you here! Seriously, I'm really glad you're here, so much that I'm rewarding you and tell you about myself.

You have probably already noticed that my name is Frederik Bauer. In general, I'm a cheerful software engineer. I have done my undergraduate at the Technical University Dortmund, where I have accumulated a lot of knowledge in all different basic topics in computer science. To be able to get an idea about the gaming industry, I have taken my knowledge to Hamburg, an excellent location when it comes to gaming in Germany. At Daedalic Entertainment GmbH, I have first contributed to and published a game called "Fire". This game has even won a "Deutsche Computerspielepreis" in the category "Best Children's Game" in 2015.

I have got to known the gaming industry as very exciting, but also as very exhausting. Through InnoGames I got into contact with the development of tools and workflows. In the first year, I have worked on my own project, which I have also published. It is a web application, with which one can handle so called "test sessions" by the company with external testers easier. Where 4 separated tools were needed to handle these "test sessions", it is now possible with just one tool. For the future for me and for this tool I find the topic "Gamification" really interesting. There are so many possibilities to integrate "Gamification" into systems with specific tools, workflows employee or customers. I am excited to try them all out.

Daedalic Entertainment GmbH

At Daedalic Entertainment GmbH I was a developer for the game Fire from the very beginning to the last steps of the first release on . During the scripting work I got in touch with every single part of the game development. I had to ask the Programmer for more methods to use, had to port the Level Design from Photoshop to the Unity Editor, had to implement all the animations by the Animators, and most important of all I had to implement all the assets and logic the Game Designer wanted in the game.

After 8 months I was responsible as the Lead Scripter to distribute the scripting work and to discuss about possible features inside the game with the Lead Programmer and the Game Designer. Therefore I had quite much influence in these both regions so finally I was credited with 3 different roles: Lead Scripter, Programmer and Game Designer.

Additionally I supported the Lead Programmer by fixing several bugs and developing tools for the Artists as well for the Unity Editor. For the Artists I made a Photoshop Script tool to improve and fasten the workflow between Photoshop and the Animation Program Spine. Another Photoshop Script I made was for us Scripters and the Programmer to get all important information out of a Photoshop File to port the level designed in Photoshop to Unity.

In my course of studies, I did not only learn the theoretical facts, but was also able to deepen this understanding in internal software labs as well as in various exercise classes. Therefore, determining and creating models, data structures, and algorithms belong just as much to my expertise as their final implementation.

Moreover, I have been a teaching assistant for the class "Introduction to Computer Sciences" for non-computer scientists, where I have gained experience in explaining complex matters of computer science to a non-computer scientist audience.

I finished my studies with my Bachelor's thesis about "Evaluation of explanation interfaces based on textual ratings" which has been graded as 1.5 (A, A- in American grading).
